Dawn Patrol July 11, 2009

Yesterday afternoon was a little rough, and it was entirely my fault. I had Abby out on a long walk, and she got hungry when I was about twenty minutes from home. I hurried home and got her a bottle, but by that time, she was angry at me - and rightfully so. She was fussy with me for the rest of the afternoon until Mommy got home.

I want to say that she was actually showing a persistant anger at me even after I got her fed. This is supported by the fact that she was happy to see Mommy and seemed in a much better mood when Mommy was holding her. But it might, of course, be coincidence. Its impossible to know, but I am inclined to assume that she has a lot more going on upstairs than she reveals. It serves her interests, you see, to be smarter than I think she is.

All three of us went grocery shopping in the evening, and Abby spent her time deciding which aisle was the most interesting. I had her in the Infantino carrier, and she kicked the most in the cereal aisle. You'd almost think that the designers of the cereal boxes are trying to get childrens' attention.

The big news on the development front is that Abby clearly and intentionally used her torso muscles to pull herself from a reclining to a sitting position. She did this multiple times in pursuit of toys, and she was able to hold the sitting position for several seconds. It will be a great day when she can sit up as new vistas of play will immediately open.
