Dawn Patrol: July 16, 2009

Abby and I have settled into a bit of a cold war. Neither of us wants a repeat of the full-scale conflict that occurred on the day before yesterday. Such confrontations are wasteful and dangerous. As I believe Marko Ramius once said, they have no monuments but only casualties.

Neither of us wants to show any sings of weakness either. So, she gets drowsy at all the right times, and I hold her until she gets drowsy. I then gently put her into the crib where she drifts quietly off the sleep.

From what I understand, however, she did test Mommy for about 25 minutes while Daddy was off teaching last night. It appears now that all is quiet on the sleeping front.

So yesterday was a good day overall. Abby continues to get more engaged and aware of her surroundings, and her torso control is developing apace. I have taken to holding her up by her hips to keep her from teetering, and when I do this, she can support her weight in a sitting position for a decent amount of time. The issue now appears to be more or less one of balance, but this is improving daily as well.

It is also worth noting how interested in books she is. She gets visibly excited when we break one out, and it is difficult to keep her settled while we read it. She insists on touching all of the pictures and tasting the corners of the book. Now don't worry. We are definitely going to encourage this interest, and we read to her everyday. Looking for a gift for little Abby? Buy her a book! Although you might want to check with Mommy or Daddy to see what she already has.

Today is a big day in Abby's social life. We have the second meeting of the Logan Square Playgroup at 9:00 am. According to the emails, there will be quite a few more people there this time than there were two weeks ago.

And I will try to keep the peace.
