Dawn Patrol: July 27, 2009

Abby woke up around 2:45 am this morning, and unusually she actually stayed awake. She got loud about 3:00, so I went in to make sure she was alright. She had gotten herself wrapped up in the crib bars, a state of affairs that I obviously couldn't ignore. I'm starting to think that she does this on purpose because she knows that I'll have to come in to rescue her. If she can get me to look into her pitiful, plaintive little eyes, her chances of getting picked up are increased by at least an order of magnitude.

She was showing hunger cues, so I went ahead and changed and fed her. She scarfed down the bottle, and I burped her and put her back down. I never said a word or turned on the light, but she was awake, and she played until about 5:00 am in the crib. When she's doing this, I have to sleep on the couch so the baby monitor won't disturb Mommy on a work night. She never did get back to sleep in the night-time sense of the word, so pray that she settles back into her normal schedule tonight and tomorrow morning.

Abby loves sweet potatoes. She also very clearly loves sitting up in the high chair and being the center of attention. The only real obstacle to her eating was that she got so excited, kicking her legs and squealing with gustatory glee, that she wore herself out before she had eaten all of her allotted portion. She was completely exhausted after about five minutes. It was adorable, and I did get movies and pictures. I'll put them up on Flickr later today. Email me if you want access to them.

I managed to sleep a little between 5:00 and 7:00 while Mommy got ready and handled the baby wranglin', but I am fighting zombiness and probably will be all day. As my mother would point out, Abby came about her inability to function when she's tired honestly. I have the same problem.
