The Abby Report: August 8, 2009

Abby met her aunt (my sister) and uncle (her husband) for the first time yesterday. They flew in the afternoon from Charleson, SC.

Obviously since we have company, this will be a short post. I don't want to end up blogging about how rude everyone thinks I am.

My sister absolutely loves her niece, which is not a surprise, and her husband isn't immune to Abby's cuteness either. What's interesting is how taken Abby is with her uncle. He does seem to be able to make faces that are particularly silly, but I'm not sure if that entirely explains it. Abby seems to respond better to men than to women. This doesn't mean that she responds badly to women, she just responds more positively to men. I wonder whether this is a function of her spending so much time with me or whether this is common with girl babies.

So there's a question, do girl babies show a particular affinity to men? Do boys babies respond better to women? Or is this just an idiosyncrasy of Abby or perhaps her uncle?

Anyway, we've had a nice day today. All five us took a nice long walk and then went swimming at the Y. For the first time Abby clearly seemed to be enjoying swimming. She didn't like going underwater, but she didn't get too upset by it. Abby in the pool is a wonder to behold, and she'll be swimming under her own power in no time.

Tomorrow's post will likely be short as well, but I'll be sure to give a more comprehensive debriefing on Monday.
