As many of you know, Mommy and I introduced Abby to solid foods a little over a week ago. We started with sweet potatoes, which has been a hit. Our daughter absolutely loves sweet potatoes. I mean she kicks-her-legs, squeals-in-delight, gets-mad-and-cries-when-you-take-to-long-to-get-a-new-spoonful-into-her-mouth loves them.
In all honesty, the fact that she really likes to eat them is about all they have going for them. They are messy and stain everything they touch, and since she is still quite the Spitup McGee, she manages to get them just about everywhere. Oh well, live and learn. But the sad thing is that when we have our second child, we'll almost certainly start him or her on sweet potatoes, too. Why, you ask? Because they are sooooo good!
So on Sunday, we added rice cereal to her daily solid food meal. She seemed to really like that, too. I made it with some thawed breast milk, and she scarfed it down with big grins and laughing eyes. Well, yesterday I made it up with formula, and she refused it! I gave her the first spoonful, and she made the most dramatic and hideous face of disgust. She spit it out, and gave me an insulted and hurt expression. She actually made me feel guilty! For giving her rice cereal made with formula!
I went back to the sweet potatoes, and she happily ate them. Then, trying a trick to get babies to eat new things, I mixed in a spoonful of rice cereal here and there. No joy. She actually started to cry when I gave her the cereal.
I'm going to try to make it with water today. Hopefully, she won't reject that. We only have so much frozen breast milk, and I can just see the looks on my parents' faces if I had to tell them that our little girl will only eat rice cereal if it's made from breast milk.
Otherwise, yesterday was, for the most part, uneventful. She, her friend and the Daddies went to the Y, and while she was in the nursery, Abby fell asleep in the nice woman's arms. I guess I'm not the only one that can't resist letting her do that. She did get a little fussy when the time came for her mid-afternoon nap, but she fell asleep soon enough.
For some reason, the crankier she is when I'm trying to get her down, the cuter she is when she's finally asleep.
